#14- Carlos Hyde/ Tailback/ The Ohio State Buckeyes/ Sophomore .
The bad news for Ohio State started when the NCAA investigated five of their best players, Quarterback Terrelle Pryor,- Tailback Daniel "Boom "Herron- Defensive End- Solomon Thomas- Wide Receiver DeVier Posey, and Offensive Tackle Mike Adams. The NCAA found evidence that the athletes sold memorabilia and championship rings, in exchange of money and credit for tattoos at a local parlor, giving way to many sanctions and rule violations . The NCAA suspended all players involved for the first 6 games of the 2011 season. Then came the back breaking news of head coach Jim Tressel being investigated by the NCAA for his involvement in the situation, and not forthcoming the knowledge that he knew the players were breaking NCAA rules, as he was, all along. He was also suspended for the first six games of the year. The fallout in the media has been brutal on the program, but replacing the suspended players, and players lost due to graduation or the NFL Draft, will hurt the program immensely in the first half of the '11 season.
Traditionally, in years past, when the Buckeyes have lacked depth or talent at quarterback, they relied on pounding the ball, playing conservative football and staying mostly on the ground winning time of possesion. With Pryor and Herron out the first 6 games, two first year starters will be in the backfield through the first half of the season. This means that OSU will change back to a run oriented offense and Sophomore tailback Carlos Hyde could emerge in the same way that Maurice Clarett did in 2001-2002, with Hyde being more close to the size of former Buckeye Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George. Hyde has the talent to beat out Jordan Hall and Jammal Berry as the starting tailback, and the big sophomore only needs that opportunity to show that he could be the next superstar in Columbus.
